Most teams stop after one follow-up. We looked at what happens when a plastics gift manufacturer does not. Over 18 days, Memorly.AI followed up with 193 enquiries on WhatsApp, and the chat history of every lead told us what worked, what did not and what we still cannot prove.
AI follows up. The sales team closes. This post is about the first half, with the numbers behind it. See the success story on the home page.
What we measured
- 193 unique people were targeted between 22 September and 10 October 2026, and 186 of them received at least one delivered message.
- 106 replied at some point (57% of the 186 reached).
- 81 started a sales conversation, meaning they sent at least one message of their own that was not a "not interested" or "already bought elsewhere" reply.
Sales conversations are not completed sales. Deals closed and revenue are not in this data yet, and we say so again at the end.
Insight 1: the first hour decides a lot
- 37% of reached leads (68 of 186) replied within an hour, with a median first reply of 3.2 minutes.
- 46 of those 68 replied within 5 minutes.
- The utility intro message with Ready Stock and Customized buttons drove 41 of the 68 first-hour replies.
What to do: answer new enquiries in minutes and give the buyer one easy first tap.
Insight 2: a quick tap turns into a real conversation
- 78% of the 41 people who tapped a button (32 of 41) went on to describe what they needed.
- 25 of the 26 who typed or sent a photo first also kept talking.
- Customized converted best: 12 of 14 (86%), against 20 of 27 (74%) for Ready Stock.
What to do: offer a choice that fits how your buyers think, then let them continue in their own words.
Insight 3: follow-ups bring quiet leads back
- 118 leads were silent after the first hour. 37 of them (31%) replied after a follow-up.
- 23 of the 81 sales conversations (28%) came from those revived leads. Without the follow-ups, those conversations would not have happened.
- Follow-up 1 was the strongest: 18 replies, and 14 of them became sales conversations.
- Each follow-up still pulled 12 to 16% of whoever was left. Follow-up 3 mostly closed leads out: 5 of 9 tapped "not interested", so its wording is worth a second look.
- 78 leads (40%) did not reply after the full sequence.
What to do: never stop after one follow-up, and review each step by what it actually produces.

Insight 4: many conversations start when the team is offline
46% of conversations began outside 10:00 to 19:00 IST or on a Sunday. This uses assumed working hours, so check it against your own. The point stands: if replies only start when someone is at a desk, a large share of enquiries wait.
Insight 5: count people, not enrolments
29 numbers were enrolled two or three times, so 225 enrolments were 193 people. The platform tile showed a 48% reply rate because it divides by enrolments. On people who were actually reached, the reply rate is 57%. We use the people figure everywhere.
What we cannot prove yet
Qualified leads, deals won and revenue are not in this data. To measure them we need pipeline stages and won values, who answered each lead and when, real business hours and message costs, and a baseline from the quarter before. Those are the next steps for this customer.
Five things to take from this
- Reply within minutes, including outside office hours.
- Start with a button or a simple question, not a long form.
- Follow up at least once more. The first follow-up pulled the most.
- Measure each step. Reword the ones that mostly close leads out.
- Count people, then track the pipeline through to won deals and revenue.
How this was measured
Source: the campaign recipient report plus each lead's full WhatsApp chat history, pulled on 10 October 2026. The first touch was a marketing catalog message followed one minute later by a utility intro message; a reply within 60 minutes counts as first-hour. Numbers enrolled more than once are counted once, using their first run. Other businesses' automatic greetings are not counted as replies. A few leads were still mid-sequence and some follow-ups failed to deliver. No names or phone numbers are shown here.
